“When I was young I had many dreams and hope–to become a soldier of the Korean People`s Army, 

to become a university student who studies at the palace of science, to become an excellent pilot 

who defends the blue sky of my country and to become 

an athlete who can cause the flag of our Republic to be hoisted in the sky of other countries.

However, I gave up my dreams since I lost my one leg because of an accident.

 Whenever I saw my schoolmates join the army, enter the universities or start working at factories and other workplaces

I felt disappointed, only sitting beside the window like a bird with broken wings. But what gave me hope of a new life was the Paralympics.  

 The game infused a fresh courage on me who had once thought that I had to live all my life depending o

n a walking stick. It also helped me to have my dream of becoming an athlete come true.  

 Thanks to benevolent care of my motherland I became a professional athlete with disability and took 

part in the international Paralympics. And now I am learning to my heart`s content through on-line education at 

the department of economics of the Kim Il Sung University. Everybody says in astonishment that 

such a disabled person like me became an athlete yesterday and a university student today.”

 That is what Kim Jong Hyon, a disabled athlete of the Korean Sports Association of the Disabled, wrote in his diary 

with the joy of having become a university student.

 Bearing deep in his mind the affection of the motherland, he is now studying hard while improving 

his physical and technical ability. The disabled athlete has now become a university student.

《…어렸을적에 난 꿈도 희망도 많았다.

어서 커서 인민군대가 될 꿈, 형님, 누나들처럼 의젓하게 대학생복을 차려입고 과학의 전당에서 공부하는 꿈, 

훌륭한 비행사가 되여 내 나라의 푸른 하늘을 지켜갈 꿈, 람홍색공화국기를 휘날리는 체육인이 되는 꿈…

그러나 나의 한 다리를 앗아간 뜻밖의 사고는 소중한 나의 모든 꿈을 삼켜버리는듯 싶었다.

유년시절동무들이 어드덧 성장하여 하나 둘 인민군대로, 상급학교로, 새로 일떠서는 공장과 일터로 달려갈 때 죽지 

부러진 새마냥 창문가에만 앉아있어야 하는 나의 가슴은 한없이 괴로웠다.

그러던 나에게 새 삶의 희망을 가져다준것은 장애자 및 애호가체육경기였다. 

그 경기는 한생을 지팽이인생으로 살아야겠구나 하고 괴로워하던 나에게 새로운 힘을 불어넣어주고 

람홍색공화국기를 휘날리는 체육인이 되려던 어릴적 꿈을 이룰수있게 해주었다.

어머니조국은 장애자인 나를 어엿한 장애자체육선수로 키워 국제경기무대에도 내세워주었으며 

오늘은 김일성종합대학 경제학부 원격대학생으로 배움의 나래를 한껏 펼치도록 해주었다.

장애자인 내가 어제는 체육인이 되더니 오늘은 대학생이 되다니… 》

몇해전 어느날 대학생이 된 기쁨을 안고 조선장애자체육협회 김정현선수가 일기장에 남겼던 글이다.

그날의 그 사랑을 가슴깊이 간직하고 그는 오늘도 자신을 육체기술적으로 더욱 련마해나가면서 학업에도 열중하고있다.

장애자체육선수가 이제는 어엿한 대학생이 되였다.
